IT Systems Engineer II
The Systems Engineer II designs, implements, and maintains the university’s enterprise server and storage
infrastructure across cloud platforms and Biola’s on-premises data centers. This role ensures the high
availability, performance, and security of critical enterprise IT services, directly supporting the
university’s mission and operational excellence.

2+ years Systems Engineering and 3+ years Information Technology experience preferred

One Systems Engineer role requires on-campus presence in La Mirada, CA (hybrid eligible).
Remaining roles may be fully remote.

Essential Duties
Implement, configure, and maintain:
Linux and Windows server VMs, Kubernetes containers, tiered storage, and hypervisor tools (hybrid cloud)
Automated system management tools for deployment, monitoring, and patching
Identity and access management systems supporting SSO and MFA
PaaS and SaaS platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Zoom, Microsoft 365)
Endpoint management systems (macOS, Windows, iOS)
Implement and configure hybrid, agentic AI systems for university operations
Use agentic AI to troubleshoot, design, implement, and maintain infrastructure systems
Identify and resolve complex (Tier 3+) technical issues
Design and implement enterprise backup solutions aligned to RTO/RPO targets
Participate in after-hours on-call rotation
Maintain patch management and system upgrade processes
Monitor cybersecurity threats and harden systems accordingly
Implement log management and monitoring best practices
Participate in infrastructure design and deployment projects
Develop and maintain system documentation and knowledge base content
Stay current with emerging IT and security trends
Evaluate new technologies for institutional adoption
Mentor junior team members
Fulfill escalated service requests from Tech Support
Required Skills / Qualifications
Broad IT experience across multiple platforms and best practices
Proven ability to use AI to accelerate daily work and project delivery (experience using agentic AI is a plus)
Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking ability
Knowledge of IT security best practices and system hardening
Integrity in handling sensitive systems and data
Strong technical execution and teamwork
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
Experience with GitOps and version control systems
Expertise in Linux and Windows administration
Experience with macOS administration
Knowledge of containerization and orchestration
Experience with automation and infrastructure-as-code
Familiarity with Ansible and scripting
Experience with identity platforms (e.g., Entra ID)
Experience with endpoint management tools (Intune, SCCM, Jamf)
Strong ability to work independently on complex tasks
Demonstrated team orientation and cross-functional collaboration
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Hiring Range: $57.69 - 67.31 per hour
